The Challenge
AddOn Networks maintains over 40,000 unique SKUs across optical transceivers and high-speed cabling products, serving Fortune 500 enterprises, government entities, and data centers. Their clients needed a way to navigate an enormous product catalog where compatibility between components is critical — customers can only purchase parts that work together. The existing systems couldn't handle the complexity of thousands of configuration rules, massive data imports/exports, or the custom quoting workflows required for region-specific pricing. They needed a partner who could build a sophisticated backend that made the frontend simple for customers.
Our Solution
We built a custom product configurator that manages thousands of complex compatibility rules behind the scenes. Customers are guided through all available options based on the specific rules of each product — they can only configure combinations that actually work together. When new products are added, every possible configuration is created and validated. We developed a MySQL-based CMS to manage 40,000+ SKUs and their relationships, with robust import/export functionality for synchronization with their separate inventory management system. The custom quoting tool handles region-specific pricing — different countries and regions have different prices for each product — so customers can look up hardware, request quotes, and the AddOn team can generate accurate quotes based on location. The entire platform was built with PHP and SQL, with our team handling architecture, frontend, and backend over a decade-long engagement.
